The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered a temporary stay on the declaration of NEET UG 2025 results in response to a petition highlighting a power outage during the exam at a designated centre. The complaint alleges that the disruption may have affected the performance of several candidates, thereby compromising the fairness of the national-level medical entrance examination.
Complaint Filed Over Examination Disruption
The petition was filed by candidates who appeared for the exam in a centre located in a district of Madhya Pradesh. According to the petitioners, a power outage lasting over 30 minutes disrupted the exam environment, leading to confusion, time loss, and undue stress among students. They claimed that this incident created an uneven playing field compared to students in other unaffected centres across India.
Court’s Response and Interim Relief
After reviewing the preliminary evidence and hearing arguments, the High Court bench issued an interim order, directing the National Testing Agency (NTA) to withhold the results of NEET UG 2025 until further notice. The court has also sought a detailed response from NTA regarding the exam conduction at the affected centre, including power backup provisions and corrective measures taken on the day of the incident.
NTA’s Stand and Investigation
The NTA is expected to file a report within a specified time frame. As per initial statements, the agency has acknowledged the complaint and assured the court that an internal inquiry is underway. However, it has not yet confirmed whether the incident was widespread or limited to a single location.
Impact on Students and Future Proceedings
The stay order has introduced a degree of uncertainty for students across the country, as NEET UG results play a crucial role in admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses. The High Court is likely to conduct the next hearing within a week, after reviewing the NTA’s report and possible solutions.
The final decision may include re-examination for the affected centre, result recalibration, or partial release of results based on court directions.
