It is a Coed Boarding School, which serves the educational needs of hundreds of students from VI through XII. The classes in Rashtriya Military School for every academic year begins in April and ends in March.
Brief History of Rashtriya Military Schools
The British as part of their welfare schemes established King George Royal Indian Military Schools (KGRIMS) which was later known as King George Royal Military College (KGRIMC). Two schools came into existence after the First World War.The KGRIMS at Jhelum (now in Pakistan) and KGRIMS at Jalandhar were the first two such institutions to be established in 1925. The KGRIMS Ajmer was established in 1930. The above institutions were re-designated to KGRIMC in 1945 and two more institutions were established namely KGRIMC Belgaum in 1945 and KGRIMC Bangalore in 1946.
KGRIMC Jalandhar shifted to Nowgong in Madhya Pradesh. In 1952, these institutions at Nowgong, Ajmer, Belgaum and Bangalore were re-designated to King Georges School (KGS). The school at Nowgong shifted to Chail near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh in 1960. In 1962 the fifth school started at Dholpur in Rajasthan. In Jan 1966 these institutions were re-designated as Military Schools and in June 2007 as Rashtriya Military Schools.
Rashtriya Military Schools are CBSE affiliated residential school for boys studying in class VI to XII. The school prepares the cadets for All India Senior School Certificate Examination and for joining defence forces as officers.

Admission into Classes IX and XI is on the basis of available vacancies. Admissions are in the category of Boarders only. No day scholars are allowed. Admissions are exclusively for boys.
Age criteria for Admission
- For admission to class VI a candidate should not be less than 10 years and more than 11 years of age on 01 Jul of the year of admission.
- For admission to class IX a candidate should not be less than 13 years and more than 14 years of age on 01 Jul of the year of admission.
- For admission to class XI a candidate should not be less than 15 years and more than 16 years of age on 01 Jul of the year of admission.
Admission Process
- Prospectus and Application forms can be obtained from any of the Rashtriya Military Schools by paying Rs 550/-( Rs 275/- in case of SC/ST , copy of the Caste certificate to be submitted).Application form can also be obtained through by post forwarding self addressed slip and Rs 600/-(Rs 325/-for SC/ST including Rs 50/- Postage Charge)
- Common Entrance Test for admission to class VI and IX in December and is automated OMR based in subjects of Intelligence, General Knowledge, Mathematics and English of Class V Standard.
- Candidates who clear the CET and are figuring in the merit list will be required to appear for Interview at respective Rashtriya Military Schools.
- Final merit list will be prepared after the Interview.
Reservation of Seats
- 70% for wards of JCOs/OR of Army , Navy and AF ( including Exservicemen)
- 30% for wards of Officers of Army, Navy and AF (including retired Officers) and wards of civilians.
- 50 seats are reserved for wards of service personnel Killed in Action. Note: 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for SC and ST in all categories.
Admission to Class XI
Admission to Class XI will be based on Class x board exam results. No written exam will be held for admission to class XI.
