The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, has announced the launch of a new integrated programme—B.Sc. LLB (Hons) with a specialization in Cyber Security. This five-year course will be offered through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 and marks a significant shift towards integrating technical and legal education in response to the growing demand for cyber law professionals in India.
A New Interdisciplinary Approach to Legal Education
NLIU’s new programme is designed to bridge the gap between technology and law. It aims to prepare students who are not only well-versed in traditional legal studies but also equipped with in-depth knowledge of cyber law, digital forensics, and information security. With the increasing complexity of digital crimes and data regulation, the course is positioned to meet the demands of both the public and private sectors in areas like cybercrime investigation, tech policy, and digital governance.
Course Structure and Focus Areas
The B.Sc. LLB (Hons) programme combines foundational subjects in law with specialized modules in:
- Cybersecurity and digital crime
- Data protection and privacy law
- Information technology law
- Computer science fundamentals and applications
This interdisciplinary model reflects NLIU’s vision of preparing professionals who can navigate legal frameworks in highly technical environments.
Admissions through CLAT 2025
Admission to the programme will be based on performance in CLAT 2025, conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The intake capacity and seat allocation details are expected to be published soon on the official CLAT and NLIU websites.
Aligning with National and Global Priorities
This initiative aligns with broader trends in Indian higher education, where institutions are increasingly offering programmes that blend law, technology, and policy. It also supports the government’s efforts under the Digital India initiative and data governance reforms that require a new generation of tech-literate legal experts.
Institutional Background and Future Outlook
NLIU Bhopal, already known for its Rajiv Gandhi National Cyber Law Centre, has been at the forefront of cyber law and information security education in India. The addition of this integrated undergraduate programme further strengthens its position as a leader in tech-law education.
The launch of the B.Sc. LLB (Hons) in Cyber Security not only enhances the academic diversity at NLIU but also addresses a critical gap in India’s legal education system—producing lawyers who can understand, interpret, and lead in digital spaces.
