St. Xavier's School Doranda, Ranchi, is named after St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit saint of the 16th Century who travelled to India. It was founded in 1960 and is managed by the Fathers of the Society of Jesus popularly known as Jesuits. It is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi. It prepares students for the ICSE (10th - only boys) and ISC (12th - Co-ed) examinations conducted by the Council.
The Plus Two section was flagged off to a flying start by Fr. James Lakra, S.J. & Fr. Ajit Kr. Xess, S.J. in 2001. The first chief co-coordinator to implement their vision was the late Mr. Hira Prasad, one of the founder teachers of St. Xavier's School, Doranda. Now the School conducts es for Plus Two in Science and Commerce streams.
The management of the School is vested in the Ranchi Jesuit Society. The President of the Governing is Rev. Fr. Provincial of the Ranchi Jesuit Province.
The School is intended primarily for the education of Catholic boys, particularly of the Tribal Community. However, with due regard to the strength of each and the academic ability of the pupil, students of all religious persuasions are admitted, without any interference with their respective creeds. The School makes a preferential for the marginalized and seeks to give an all-round ation, inculcating both human and spiritual values.
