It is a Girls Day School, which serves the educational needs of over 1800 students from Nursery through XII. The classes in Loreto Convent School for every academic year begins in April and ends in March.
The Loreto Sisters came to Shimla in 1892 with a view to provide good quality education for girls. After purchasing the twin properties of Tara Hall and Bellevue, the Loreto Sisters established themselves on the present site on November 1895. Loreto Convent, Tara Hall, Shimla is one of the 15 Loreto schools in India.
In 2010 the school changed over from ICSE Board to the CBSE Board and Classes XI and XII were introduced.
The School is divided into two blocks. The Junior Wing consists of classes from Nursery to 5th and the Senior Wing Consists of classes from 6th to 12th in the two buildings, Belle Vue and Tara Hall.
