Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla (Previously known as Himachal Pradesh Medical College, Shimla – name changed/incorporated vide Himachal Pradesh Govt. Notification No.HFW (Cha) 4-3/84, dated 7.11.1984) started functioning from Aug 1966 with 50 admissions. IGMC increased its MBBS intake to 65 seats in 1978 and finally to 100 seats from academic session 2010-2011.

3 hospitals are attached to this college for the purpose of providing practical traiing to the college students – Indira Gandhi Hospital, Shimla, Kamla Nehru State Hospital for Mothers & Children and Medical Institutions situated in the Mashobra Block. MBBS Admission Procedure and Eligibility for Admission – MBBS Course 2024 - 2025

The admission to Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla MBBS course will be through NEET UG exam. Admission to MBBS Courses in India in Medical Colleges approved by MCI is through NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG) [NEET (UG)] except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament e.g. AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry. As per regulations framed under the Indian Medical Council Act and the Dentists Act, NEET UG will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses in India in Medical and Dental Colleges recognised and approved by Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Admission to all MBBS seats of Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla and other Medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh state is purely on the basis of merit. Candidates who have appeared in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and have cleared the NEET UG Exam conducted in the current academic year based on the NEET result are eligible for the admission. A Person will clear the NEET exam if marks obtained by the candidate are equal to or more than qualifying cut off marks.   • Department of Medical Education and Research, Government of Himachal Pradesh or the body nominated by the department will release the official notification for seeking applications along with the detailed procedure and schedule
  • Candidate who want to apply for Medical courses in Himachal Pradesh colleges have to apply online on the website of admission committee for the consideration of his candidature. Candidates have to submit the application or admission form within the time line released by the committee.
  • The department/Committee will prepare the result/merit list based on the NEET Score and other criterias. The merit list will be available on the website.
  • After declaration of merit list, selected candidates will be called for document verification and counselling/admission.
  • The department/Committee conducts two 2 rounds of counseling/ Seat Allocation and 1 MOP up admission

Medical Post Graduate Courses and PG Diploma Courses – Admission Procedure

As per Section (10) of Indian Medical Council Act 1956, Admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses in Medical Colleges approved by MCI in India is through NEET PG. National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test PG (NEET-PG) is the single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to Postgraduate Medical Courses and PG Diploma Courses (MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses) in India.

Please note state government, private dental college and universities including the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh will NOT be conducting any separate entrance exam for admission to their MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses for the academic session 2024 - 2025.

Medical Post Graduate Super Specialty DM/MCH Courses – Admission Procedure

As per the Indian Medical Council Act 2016, Admission to various DM/MCh Courses in Medical Colleges and Institutions approved by MCI in India is through NEET SS. National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test SS (NEET-SS) is the single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to Postgraduate (PG) Super Specialty Medical Courses (DM/M.Ch. Courses) in varioud Universities/Institutions in the India.

Admission to all DM/MCh Courses in India including all Private Medical Colleges/ Institutions/ Universities/Deemed Universities and all DM/MCh courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions will be through NEET SS. Admission to PG Super Speciality courses of AIIMS, PGIMER, NIMHANS and JIPMER is not through NEET SS exam. Know more about NEET SS exam. Please note state government, private dental college and universities including the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh will NOT be conducting any separate entrance exam for admission to their DM and MCh Courses for the academic session 2024 - 2025.

The following Medical institutions are not covered for admissions to DM and MCh seats through NEET-SS:

  • AIIMS, New Delhi
  • PGIMER, Chandigarh
  • JIPMER, Puducherry
  • NIMHANS, Bengaluru
  • Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum

It is one of the best medical colleges for pg in nearby locations please feel free to contact with food without food both are available with free WiFi and 2 seater rooms and dormertary both facilities available.

This might be a lengthy one! So the infrastructure is more of ok ok types though the medical machines and stuff are pretty advanced. It's considered one of the top medical college as well as hospital in HP. Everything seems pretty good upto this point. Right? Well not exactly! So i have someone who used to study in this college and then did her internship here only. So this one time I came to Shimla and talked to her regarding her college and the internship work. These are the golden words that came out of her mouth " DON'T EVER COME TO THIS HOSPITAL TO ADMIT SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT." When asked why, she said " JUST TRUST ME! ANYONE WHO CAN AFFORD A PRIVATE HOSPITAL SHOULD NOT EVEN COME TO THIS GOD FORSAKEN PLACE." And this one reason she gave me "MANY TIMES TOOLS AREN'T EVEN STERILISED" Well I can't say trust this review. But if you ever go to this hospital try to check that everything they use is sterilised. If you are reading this, I hope you or anyone close to you never visits a hospital. GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

My father was admitted in IGMC Shimla Medical Ward from 7th of April to 20th April 2017 Great to see the efforts of the doctors, nurses and all other staff, Every one was doing their job perfectly Would like to thank all for their support and work. Especially Doctor Ashish, Doctor Arjun, Dr. Kaushik who have given their best for the case. Great dedication towards the patients.
