CBSE released the 2027 board exam date sheet on 6 November 2026. Both Class 10 and Class 12 begin on 16 February 2027. Every paper starts at 10:30 AM. Class 10 closes on 9 March 2027. Class 12 runs until 9 April 2027.
The board put the schedule out 101 days before the first paper. That number matters more than it looks. A hundred days is enough to rebuild a weak chapter, fix a sloppy answer-writing habit, or recover from a bad pre-board. It is not enough to panic for three months and then cram.
Below is the full update. The dates, the practical windows, the one big rule change for Class 10, and the part of the date sheet that no PDF will show you.
The Dates That Frame Everything
Detail | Class 10 | Class 12 |
|---|---|---|
First paper | 16 February 2027 (Painting) | 16 February 2027 (Physics) |
Last paper | 9 March 2027 | 9 April 2027 |
Start time | 10:30 AM | 10:30 AM |
Subjects | 83 | 121 |
Registered students | Over 26.5 lakh | Over 19.8 lakh |
Practical exams | 1 Jan – 13 Feb 2027 | 1 Jan – 13 Feb 2027 |
The date sheet was checked against more than 40,000 subject combinations, which is why two subjects taken by the same student do not land on the same day. The board also said it looked at the tentative schedules of major entrance exams while building this calendar.
Class 10: The Main Subject Dates
Date | Subject | Timing |
|---|---|---|
16 Feb | Painting | 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM |
17 Feb | Mathematics (Standard and Basic) | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
19 Feb | Home Science | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
22 Feb | Science | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
24 Feb | Computer Applications, IT, AI | 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM |
26 Feb | English (Communicative and Language & Literature) | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
3 Mar | Hindi Course A and B | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
8 Mar | Social Science | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
9 Mar | Other languages and subjects | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
The gap between Maths (17 February) and Science (22 February) is five days. English and Hindi are separated by five days. Social Science sits alone at the end. Those gaps are not holidays. They are revision blocks, and the students who treat them that way are the ones who walk out of the last paper feeling steady instead of stunned.
Class 12: The Main Subject Dates
Date | Subject | Timing |
|---|---|---|
16 Feb | Physics | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
18 Feb | Physical Education | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
23 Feb | Accountancy | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
25 Feb | Geography | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
27 Feb | Chemistry | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
5 Mar | English Core / Elective | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
9 Mar | Mathematics / Applied Mathematics | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
13 Mar | Hindi Elective / Hindi Core | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
16 Mar | Economics | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
19 Mar | Political Science | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
25 Mar | Biology | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
27 Mar | History | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
30 Mar | Sociology | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
31 Mar | Computer Science, IP, IT | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
1 Apr | Business Studies | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
9 Apr | Retail / Web Application | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM |
The PCM run is the tightest stretch. Physics to Chemistry is eleven days. Chemistry to Maths is ten days. JEE Main Session 1 ends on 28 January 2027 (dates: 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027). That leaves nineteen days between the last JEE paper and the Physics board paper. That is not a lot of time to switch from MCQ practice to writing full derivations by hand. For NEET aspirants, the gap between Chemistry and Biology is 26 days, which is good but still requires a plan.
The Class 10 Rule Change Most Families Have Not Noticed
Class 10 now has a second chance built in. The main exam is compulsory. A student can then sit an optional second exam in May 2027 to improve scores in up to three subjects (Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages). The better score of the two attempts counts.
Class 12 does not have this option. It remains a single annual exam for now. That asymmetry matters. A Class 10 student who has a bad week in February can recover. A Class 12 student cannot. The Class 12 date sheet is a one-shot map, and it should be treated with the seriousness that deserves.
Also the question paper design is unchanged from last year. Nothing new to decode. The 50% competency-based question share remains the same. The board did not quietly change the rules while releasing the dates.
Practical Exams: The Dates That Decide How Much Theory Time You Get
Practicals and internal assessments for regular schools run from 1 January to 13 February 2027. Winter-bound schools finish earlier, between 9 November and 19 December 2026.
The practical date is not on the CBSE PDF. The school sets it within that window. A student whose practicals wrap up by mid-January gets a clean month for theory. A student whose practicals drag into early February loses the most valuable revision days of the year. Ask the school for the practical date now. Not in January.
Where to Get the Official PDF
The date sheet is on cbse.gov.in. Go to the “Latest Updates” or “Examination” section and look for the notification dated 6 November 2026. The direct PDF link may change, so the homepage route is safer than a bookmarked deep link.
The PDF lists every subject, including vocational papers. A student only needs the five or six rows that match their own registration. Do not read it cover to cover. Find the subject codes. Mark the dates. Close the file.
What the Date Sheet Cannot Tell You
A calendar is a map. It is not a plan, and it is certainly not a measure of a child’s worth.
For a parent, the date sheet can look like a countdown to a verdict. For a student, it can feel like a countdown to judgment. Both reactions are common, and neither is helpful for the next hundred days.
A few things that actually help, starting from the emotional side rather than the academic one.
Stress is expected. It is not a sign of weakness. A racing heart before a paper, a bad night’s sleep in February, a sudden blankness in a mock test. These are normal stress responses, not proof that something is wrong with the student. The goal is not to eliminate stress. It is to keep it from running the household.
For students, control what is actually controllable. The date sheet is fixed. The syllabus is fixed. What is not fixed is the daily plan, the sleep schedule, and the decision to test yourself instead of rereading. Those three things decide more of the outcome than the number of hours spent at a desk.
For parents, calm is contagious. A parent who checks the date sheet every morning and announces the countdown at breakfast adds pressure, not preparation. A parent who asks “what does today need?” and then gets out of the way does more. Watch for sleep loss, withdrawal from friends, or constant irritability that lasts more than a few days. Those signals deserve attention, not a lecture about effort.
Professional help is free and confidential. CBSE runs a toll-free helpline, 1800-11-8004. The Interactive Voice Response System is available 24×7 in Hindi and English. Tele-counselling by trained principals, counsellors, special educators and psychologists is available on weekdays from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The service offers guidance on stress-free preparation, time management, and exam-related anxiety. Using it is not an overreaction. It is using a resource that exists precisely for this season.
A date sheet can sit on the fridge as a reminder of deadlines. Or it can sit there as a reminder that the next hundred days have a shape, and that shape can be worked with. The dates are fixed. The response to them is not.
FAQs Parents and Students Actually Type
Is the CBSE date sheet 2027 final?
Yes. The schedule released on 6 November 2026 is the official timetable for the 2027 board exams. CBSE does not usually change dates after the official release.
What time do the exams start?
Every paper starts at 10:30 AM. Three-hour papers end at 1:30 PM. Two-hour skill and elective papers end at 12:30 PM.
Does Class 10 really have two board exams in 2027?
Yes. The February–March exam is the main, compulsory paper. An optional second exam is expected in May 2027 for improvement in up to three subjects (Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages). The better score is counted. Class 12 still has only one annual exam.
When are the practical exams?
For regular schools, 1 January to 13 February 2027. For winter-bound schools, 9 November to 19 December 2026. Individual schools set their exact dates inside that window.
Where can I download the date sheet PDF?
From cbse.gov.in. Look under the “Latest Updates” or “Examination” section for the notification dated 6 November 2026.
My child is already anxious about the boards. What can we do now?
Call the CBSE helpline at 1800-11-8004. It is free and confidential. The automated system runs 24×7 in Hindi and English; trained counsellors are available on weekdays from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Talking to a trained counsellor early is easier than waiting for the anxiety to build through January and February.
Conclusion
The CBSE date sheet 2027 is public. The gaps are visible. The practical window is open. The Class 10 second-chance rule is real. What happens between now and 16 February is not written on any PDF.
Mark the dates. Plan around the gaps. Check on the person holding the calendar, not just the calendar itself.
