Giving a baby a bath may seem like a daunting task; however, with a little preparation and planning, it is easier than one would think. A baby's skin is very sensitive, so find a soap that is appropriate for newborns. When a baby is born, he is covered in vernix, which is a white, waxy substance that protects their skin during their time in the uterus.

This substance must be washed off before you bathe your newborn.  It is not necessary to wash a baby every day; however, when you do bathe your baby, always check his entire body. Check for any redness on the skin, and if this is found, it is a sign of irritation and you should stop the bath exactly where you are. A baby's skin is very sensitive, so if you notice this, you should stop the bath immediately. The genital area should be cleaned very gently, and you should avoid soap on the bottom. Babies sometimes pee or **** during a bath, so it is a good idea to have some towels handy. It is also a good idea to wash a baby while he is sitting in the bathtub, because if he falls he may hit his head on the tub, which can result in a serious injury.
