How to convert percent to fraction?

  1. Divide the percent value by 100 to remove the percentage sign and get a decimal number.
  2. Make a fraction with decimal number as numerator and the number ‘1’ as denominator.
  3. Count how many numbers are to the right of the decimal place and then multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction with 10 times that number. For example, if there are ‘a’ digits after decimal point then multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction with 10a
  4. Find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of numerator and denominator.
  5. Divide both numerator and denominator with that GCF to reduce the fraction to its lowest form

For Example, Convert 59.6 % to fraction

  1. Divide the percent value by 100: 59.6/100 = 0.596
  2. Rewrite the decimal number as a fraction: 0.596/1
  3. Multiply Numerator and denominator with 103 to remove decimal: 596/1000
  4. Find GCF of numerator and denominator
    Factors of 596 = 1, 2, 4, 149, 298, 596
    Factors of 1000 = 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, 25, 40, 50, 100, 125, 200, 250, 500, 1000
  5. Divide both numerator and denominator by GCF 4: (596/4)/(1000/4) = 149/250
