Motherhood is a beautiful feeling for a woman but breastfeeding the child makes her feel complete. Though mothers to be for the first time find it difficult to feed their baby for which they require certain suggestions and precautions. Breastfeeding can be challenging for new moms, therefore use these tips to ease out this challenge.

  1. Seek help first time: when you go to feed your baby for the first initial times then seek lactation tips from maternity nurses or lactation consultants on how to position the baby and how to make sure the baby is latching on correctly.
  2. Set baby's pace of hunger: for the initial weeks, many newborns feed more frequently through which you can observe the early signs of hunger such as sucking motions, lip movements, restlessness, etc.
  3. Nurse the breast one by one: nurse your baby from the first breast thoroughly until your breast feels soft generally for about 15-20 minutes. After that offer the second breast if your baby still feels hungry or latches on again. Always pump your second breast also to relieve the pressure.
  4. Care for nipples: after feeding successfully, let the milk dry itself from the nipples. Also whenever you bathe, minimize or try to not use the shampoo and soaps use that may contact your nipples. And to retain your nipples moisture well, use purified lanolin after every time you feed.
