Should children take calcium supplements?

The age between 9 to 18 is sensitive to bodies. If children take proper diet and nutrients during this period, it can shape their bodies and health in a very nurtured manner. Their height and weight would be within the BMI. Plus, they will have stronger bones & muscles even as they grow. Missing these essential vitamins and minerals during childhood can lead to severe troubles afterward. Rickets, osteoporosis, joint pain, muscle weakness, etc., are some diseases they may become vulnerable to in the long run. Hence, I definitely suggest providing them with health supplements

We all know how children can be moody about what they want to eat and whatnot. Moreover, they are too young to understand the importance of nutrients for their health. Their diet is also too timid to be able to soak up all the vitamins and minerals for growth. Here comes the role of calcium supplements. They comprise calcium, vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, and other similar nutrients in them. So even if your child is being picky with his food, you can be assured that he is receiving the nutrients in the form of supplements. There will be no deficiencies or hurdles in their hormonal growth. Also, several calcium tablets in India are available that are organic and suitable for children's health. So, why take risks with your child's health?

It is not usually necessary or even a great idea for children to take high doses of calcium supplements. A supplement with 200-500 mg each day of calcium, depending on a child's age and dietary calcium intake, should be plenty. But recommendation with a doctor is must.

Parents are often not sure about how much Calcium their kids actually need each day. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children who are:

1. 1-3 years old get 700 mg per day (about two cups of milk)

2. 4-8 years old get 1,000 mg per day (about three cups of milk)

3. 9-18 years old get 1,300 mg per day (about four cups of milk)

Even if kids aren't getting enough calcium in their diet, then you may need to give them a calcium supplement each day. Choosing a calcium supplement can be confusing though, as there are many different kinds, including calcium carbonate, calcium gluconate, liquid calcium, and more. So it is adviced to consult a doctor befor doing so and take their expertise in this regards.
