B. J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad is one of the largest medical institutes in the country. BJMC started as Ahmedabad Medical School in 1871 and was affiliated with the Civil Hospital Ahmedabad. In year 1879, Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy donated Rs. 20,000/- to the school and the school was renamed after him as B. J. Medical School. In 1946, the school got affiliated with Bombay University and became B.J. Medical College. In 1951, The college finally got affiliated to Gujarat University for its undergraduate courses and for the postgraduate courses in 1956.

Hospital Attached to the college is Civil Hospital Ahmedabad (CHA). Hospital is spread over 100 acres. It is one of the biggest and oldest hospital in India.

Every year B J Medical College Ahmedabad give admissions to 250 students to its UG MBBS course. College has MCI approval to offer 250 MBBS seats in academic session 2017-2018. Of the total seats 85% seats are for state/Government quota while remaining 15% are under All India Quota.

College central library is air conditioned and is open from 9.00 A.M to 6.00 P.M on Monday to Friday and 9.00 A.M to 1.00 P.M on Saturday.

Reading room

Library Reading rooms are open for 360 days a year from 8.00 A.M to 1.00 A.M (midnight) except for national holidays.

Student Reading Room which is inside the library has capacity of 250 students while the outside Student Reading Room has Capacity 250.College has separate reading room for staff and Resident/PG.

Hostels and Quarters

College has separate hostels for boys and girls within the campus.  Each hostel has its own mess and visitor rooms and AC study room with internet & Computer. Hostels also have recreation room with TV Music and Indoor Games. College has 8 canteens within the campus with 5 reserved for students.

MBBS Admission Procedure and Eligibility for Admission – MBBS Course 2024 - 2025

The admission to BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad MBBS course will be through NEET UG exam. Admission to MBBS Courses in India in Medical Colleges approved by MCI is through NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG) [NEET (UG)] except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament e.g. AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry. As per regulations framed under the Indian Medical Council Act and the Dentists Act, NEET UG will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses in India in Medical and Dental Colleges recognised and approved by Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Admission to all MBBS seats of BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad and other Medical colleges in Gujarat state is purely on the basis of merit. Candidates who have appeared in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and have cleared the NEET UG Exam conducted in the current academic year based on the NEET result are eligible for the admission. A Person will clear the NEET exam if marks obtained by the candidate are equal to or more than qualifying cut off marks. MBBS Admission Procedure Post Declaration of the NEET Exam result

  • Department of Medical Education and Research, Government of Gujarat or the body nominated by the department will release the official notification for seeking applications along with the detailed procedure and schedule
  • Candidate who want to apply for Medical courses in Gujarat colleges have to apply online on the website of admission committee for the consideration of his candidature. Candidates have to submit the application or admission form within the time line released by the committee.
  • The department/Committee will prepare the result/merit list based on the NEET Score and other criterias. The merit list will be available on the website.
  • After declaration of merit list, selected candidates will be called for document verification and counselling/admission.
  • The department/Committee conducts two 2 rounds of counseling/ Seat Allocation and 1 MOP up admission

Admission to All India Quota UG seats

All government colleges have 15% of total seats for ALL India Quota. BJMC PG Admision Procedure

Medical Post Graduate Courses and PG Diploma Courses – Admission Procedure

As per Section (10) of Indian Medical Council Act 1956, Admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses in Medical Colleges approved by MCI in India is through NEET PG. National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test PG (NEET-PG) is the single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to Postgraduate Medical Courses and PG Diploma Courses (MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses) in India.

Admission to PG courses of AIIMS, PGIMER, SGPGIMS, NIMHANS and JIPMER is not through NEET PG exam. Know more about NEET PG exam. Know about AIIMS Admission Procedure and JIPMER Admission procedure.

Please note state government, private dental college and universities including the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh will NOT be conducting any separate entrance exam for admission to their MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses for the academic session 2024 - 2025.

The following Medical institutions are not covered by centralized admissions for MD/MS seats through NEET-PG:
