Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC),one of the premier medical institute of India acknowledged as a centre of excellence for education and research. AFMC provides training to under-graduate and post-graduate medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in the defence services.
The institute was set up on 01 May 1948 by an act of parliament of India on the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee by the amalgamation of various defence medical organizations.
AFMC is presently affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the MCI for conducting undergraduate and various post graduate medical courses. Previously AFMC was under Pune University.
AFMC currently offers MBBS and Nursing Courses at under graduate level while it offer Post graduate and Super Speciality courses at PG level. AFMC started offering MBBS course from 1962.
The BSc Nursing course starts in the month of August every year. AFMC releases advertisements for admission to B Sc & GNM courses in the leading news papers in the month of Oct/ Dec every year. Post advertisement candidates have to submit their application forms in the prescribed format within the given time period, along with all other necessary documents mentioned in the advertisement.
The candidate must be an Indian National. Candidate should be of age 17 to 25 yrs
10+2 with three years Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery with minimum two years experience in the profession. Male nurses who have not done midwifery in the GNM programme must submit a Certificate of completion of a course of 6- 9 months duration approved by INC in lieu of midwifery, The candidate should have not less than 50% aggregate marks in all subjects. The candidate should have passed the examination in single attempt. (OR) 10 class (Matriculation or its equivalent with three years Diploma in General. Nursing Midwifery with a minimum of five years experience in the profession.
AFMC Selection Procedure: Selection will be based on the merit of the candidate at an All India level. A written objective type of examination will be conducted in February/ March every year, at certain selected centres (Published from time to time.) Successful candidates will be called for an interview at selected centres in the month of April/May each year. Candidates must be declared medically fit. The fitness will be determined by a Medical Board of Military Medical Officers. Merit listed candidates based on the interview and medical fitness will be called for B. Sc. (Nsg). Selected candidates will be required to execute a bond of agreement to serve in the Military Nursing Service for a minimum period of 5 yrs as permanent commissioned officers, on successful completion of the course. Written Examination Centres: The written examination will be conducted in 17 centres all over India. Facilities: Accommodation and Food: The students are provided with free accommodation, free laundry services and free food – a well balanced diet as per prescribed scales. Medical Facilities: Students are provided with free medical services. Leave and Travel Facilities: Students are granted 30 days vacation leave and 10 days mid term break. Stipend and Uniform Allowance: A stipend of Rs.250/- per month is given during the four years of training. A initial outfit allowance of Rs 400/- is given on joining the course and a outfit renewal allowance of Rs 150 per year during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of the course. The admission to Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (AFMC) MBBS course will be through NEET UG exam. Admission to MBBS Courses in India in Medical Colleges approved by MCI is through NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG) [NEET (UG)] except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament e.g. AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry. As per regulations framed under the Indian Medical Council Act and the Dentists Act, NEET UG will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses in India in Medical and Dental Colleges recognised and approved by Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Such candidates can take part in the counselling for admission to MBBS at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (AFMC). In order to get admission in Medical colleges in Maharashtra the candidate should also fulfill criteria laid down by the Government of Maharashtra.

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test PG (NEET-PG) is the single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to Postgraduate Medical Courses and PG Diploma Courses (MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses) in India.

Courses) in varioud Universities/Institutions in the India.
Admission to all DM/MCh Courses in India including all Private Medical Colleges/ Institutions/ Universities/Deemed Universities and all DM/MCh courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions will be through NEET SS. Admission to PG Super Speciality courses of AIIMS, PGIMER, NIMHANS and JIPMER is not through NEET SS exam. Know more about NEET SS exam.
