History

NameSamariumErbium
HistoryThe element Samarium was discovered by P.E.L. de Boisbaudran in year 1879 in France. Samarium derived its name from Samarskite, the name of the mineral from which it was first isolated. The element Erbium was discovered by G. Mosander in year 1842 in Sweden. Erbium derived its name from Ytterby, Sweden.
