About NEET SS 2019 – Super Specialty Courses Entrance Examination

NEET SS is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination, a single entrance examination to various DM and M.Ch. Courses as per the Indian Medical Council Act 2016.

Please note NEET SS is a single window entrance examination for all Super Speciality DM and MCh courses in India. No other entrance examination, either at state or institution level, shall be valid for entry to DM and MCh Courses as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 2016 w.e.f. 2018 admission session.

Scope of NEET SS

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET SS) exam is a single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to Super Specialty Courses. NEET SS is for admission to Super Specialty courses and will include the following

  1. All DM and MCh courses in the country including all Private Medical Colleges, Institutions & Universities/Deemed Universities all across the country
  2. All DM and MCh courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.

Institutions not filled through NEET SS

The following Medical institutions in India are not covered by centralized admissions for DM and MCh seats through NEET SS

  1. AIIMS, New Delhi
  2. PGIMER, Chandigarh
  3. JIPMER, Puducherry
  4. NIMHANS, Bengaluru
  5. Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum

No state government /private medical college/universities including the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh shall be conducting any separate entrance exam for admission to their Super Specialty DM and MCh Courses for the academic session 2018-2019.

Qualifying Criteria and Validity

Candidates with the 35th percentile or above shall be declared as qualified in NEET-SS exam within their respective specialty. NEET Result is valid for the current admission session only.

1 Purpose of Examination NEET SS is a Qualifying cum Ranking Examination for admission to DM/M.Ch. courses

4 No. of items (questions) There shall be a separate question paper for each super specialty course/ clubbed group. total # of question in each question paper shall be 100 which shall be divided into 2 parts
5 Time Allotted
  • Only one Super speciality / clubbed group : 1hr 45 minutes
  • Candidates who have opted for 2 super speciality courses / clubbed group : 3 hours 30 minutes
6 Negative marking Yes, 1 Marks shall be deducted for incorrect response. 4 Marks shall be awarded for correct response
7 Syllabus As per Post Graduate Medical Education Regulation
8 Mode of conduct Computer based
9 Criteria for passing the examination
  • Minimum percentile of 35 in the concerned specialty
10 Seat Allotment Merit Based Counseling conducted as per PG Medical Education Regulations
11 Reservation of seats  As per applicable guidelines /Regulation / Govt. Policy
12 Last date of Online Application  31st May 2018 (till 23:59 hrs)

NEET SS Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Pattern and Duration

  • A candidate can choose a maximum of two super specialty courses for which his/her broad specialty qualification is eligible, at the time of online submission of the application form.
  • Pattern of examination : 40% of the questions shall be from the feeder broad specialty course and the remaining 60% shall be from the super specialty course selected by the candidate at the time online submission of application form.

  • The question paper will have only single correct response. The exam will only contain multiple choice questions, each with four (4) options and only one (1) correct/best response.
  • There will be a separate question paper for all the specialties mentioned below
  • The level of examination will be of PG exit level in the concerned specialty as per the latest curriculum notified / adopted by Medical Council of India in the concerned MD/MS qualification.
  • The duration of the test : 3½ hours ( if 1 super speciality course/ clubbed group than 1 hour 45 minutes)
  • Each correct response will carry 4 marks
  • Negative Marking:  25% negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.
  • A candidate can appear for only one specialty.

NEET SS is conducted in all specialties for which MD/MS/DNB degree is eligible for pursuing Super Specialty DM/MCh. NEET-SS 2018 will be conducted in the following specialties:

Certain Super Specialties which have less number of seats and have a single common feeder broad specialty course have been clubbed together.
