Maturity comes with age. With maturity, come responsibilities and obligations and to discharge/fulfil the responsibilities, freedom is necessary. When your child gets mature, you need to give him freedom and authority so he can take his decisions on his own. You need to involve him in discussions that require the consent of all the family. He should have a right to place his perspective and form his opinion.

However, excess of everything is bad as the excess of freedom and authority leads to their misuse. Keep a check on his friend circle, so he does not fall in the wrong company. Be supportive, be his best friend-cum-mentor, fulfil his valid requirements and always seek time for him as time is the most precious thing you can give to your children.
